A 1920 original Queenslander house on an 806m2 site in Red Hill, Queensland. Starting in 2013, the design process took several years as the clients devoted themselves to heritage design and the restoration and extension of this project.

The existing dwelling was expanded to include a grand central kitchen adjoining a family room, with a dining room and outdoor entertainment areas beyond. Natural light fills every space through large windows and light wells. The corridors, arches, stairs, VJ and paneled walls showcase master craftsmanship and timeless architecture.

"From the beginning, working with Leticia was highly collaborative. She understood our desire to respect the Federation heritage of our original Queenslander and guided the design with care, ensuring the home felt both classic and thoughtfully expanded. Her attention to detail, particularly around scale and alignment, allowed the house to grow without losing its original character.

The outcome is perfect for our family. Having built several homes before, there is nothing we would change. The spaces flow beautifully, natural breezes move through the home and living together feels easy while still allowing privacy. Eight years on, the design continues to support our lifestyle and has truly stood the test of time.

We recommend Laar Design without hesitation. Leticia’s ability to understand our needs and introduce fresh thinking has resulted in a unique and elevated interpretation of a Queenslander that we still love living in."
