Casa Refugio
Casa Refugio is about honouring what was already there. The original Queenslander was carefully remodelled, with a new living extension to the rear creating a home that feels open, relaxed and connected to the garden, without the need for a large footprint.
The idea behind the design is simple: less is more. Generous windows and doors, a raked ceiling and a strong connection to the outdoors bring light, breezes and a sense of space into the home. Every area has been considered for how it is used, with practical solutions such as integrated appliances, generous storage and a concealed laundry that also works as a pantry.
The materials are warm and uncomplicated. Timber, natural textures, soft neutral tones and practical stone finishes create a calm backdrop for everyday life, while light and landscape bring their own character to the spaces throughout the day.
At a time when building costs continue to rise, Casa Refúgio reminds us that a beautiful family home doesn't need to be big. By keeping what was worth keeping and adding what was truly needed, the home feels generous where it matters - in light, connection, comfort and the way it is lived in.

Working with Leticia on Casa Refugio was an absolute pleasure. From the initial concept through to the final plans and selections, she was incredibly involved and genuinely invested in the project.
